Wokha bridge finally under construction

The bridge leading to Wokha Town civil hospital under construction.

Dimapur, April 6 (MExN): The construction work of the deplorable road and bridge leading to Dr. Motsuo memorial district hospital in Wokha started on April 1. It is being constructed through a central scheme under Ministry of Urban Development. This was stated in a press release issued by Thungdemo Kyong of Team Metamorphosis Wokha.

According to the press release, this Wokha Town infrastructure scheme started a year ago, and 30 percent of the project is complete. However, the centre has so far released only Rs 2.7 crores out of the total Rs 29 crores. It alleged that the state government is yet to issue the utilization certificate to the contractor concerned, without which the centre cannot release the remaining amount.  It also mentioned that Nzanbemo Ezung, assistant of the contactor Ben Odyuo told the team it will take about 28 days for the bridge to be constructed, but can be used only after a month of construction as it will take about a month for the bridge to be ready to take load.

Er. Nrinimo Odyuo, technical consultant for Urban Development who is overseeing the construction works revealed the contractor has opted for RCC structure for “better, stronger and durability” of the bridge due to public demand and forceful nature of the stream during monsoon, even though project specification for the bridge is CRSM, it said.

Team Metamorphosis in the note urged the state government to issue the utilization certificate at the “earliest time possible” so the remaining works can be carried out in time. “The project is first of its kind in the whole of Wokha district,” it said. It also urged the citizens of Wokha to extend cooperation to the contractor so the general works of Wokha Town Infrastructure is completed in the shortest time possible.

The press note said that Dr. TM Lotha, MLA from Wokha had a meeting with the contactor last weekend to discuss the “urgent need” for constructing the bridge before monsoon sets in. The MLA also visited the site with Vyasan R, Deputy Commissioner Wokha, it said.  It was also mentioned that Y Patton, Minister for Forest & Border affairs Nagaland with Kuzholuzo Nienu, Minister for Roads and Bridges, and host of government officials visited the site on April 2.
