Wokha DC urges students to strive for common causes

Wokha, January 14 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Orenthung Lotha, gracing the Cultural Day of the 14th general conference of the Lotha Middle Range Students' Union (LMRSU), called upon the students' community to understand the present situation and be updated with the issues of common cause.

He said division within the community leads to lack of strength to accomplish all-around development, and reminded the leaders of various organizations to have the mindset of equality without difference.

He further called for environmental activism stating that climate change is a big threat, adding that drastic changes are inevitable and witnessed by everyone due to global warming. He urged the students to work for environmental protection and take up activities to preserve and protect the flora and fauna of their communities. He also advised sensible use of resources and efforts to reduce waste.

He meanwhile said that culture evolves and does not remain static. The DC urged the younger generations to preserve good characteristics like hospitality, good gesture and social relationships, along with ancestral traditional values and attires.

He said education is a tool to empower the minds of the people and urged the educated youth to be professional and dedicated, while acquiring a wide range of knowledge to be employable, and in turn to provide jobs with their ideas and innovations.

The DC further stressed on the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine. 

The programme witnessed traditional folk songs by the Akuk Students' Union, yodeling, traditional fire making, greased pole climbing and tug of war competition.

Earlier word of greeting was delivered by Chumchanthung Ezung, President, Nyiro Range Students' Union. The new team of the LMRSU for the year 2022-2025 is led by Wonchibemo Ovung.
