Wokha District Class-I Contractor Union resolves

Kohima, Sept 20 (MExN): The general meeting of the Wokha District Class-I Contractors Union was held on September 16 at Wokha town in the residence of its president and discussed the various points at length exclusively in connection to upgradation of Wokha –Merapani Road (ODR to MDR) 60 km and resolved the following;

1. Since the upgradation of Wokha –Merapani road falls under 2 separate divisions i’e, EE Wokha and EE Baghty, the said work should be divided accordingly as per the area coverage for effective supervision and better workmanship like in the case of construction and upgradation of Longleng- Ladaigarh road.

2. In every tender paper there is always distinction between the tribal and non-tribal contractors for Earnest Money i’e, I per cent and 2 per cent respectively. But in the case of Wokha-Merapani road, it appears to be lump sum, which happens to be the first of its kind.

3. (a) NIT for Wokha-Merapani road was signed on the 11th September 2005 but appeared in the local paper on 14th September 2006, which is clearly indicated the involvement of vested interested non-local contractor.

(b) In the NIT, I was mentioned “Short Tender” which is objectionable in the case of major work.

The above points are found to be cross violation of norms of NPWD contract and the authority is requested to cancel the NIT. NO. CE/R/B Tender/NEC/2006-2007, Dated

Kohima the 11th September 2005, if not, WDC-ICU have decided to file PIL, for greater interests of the Nagas, according to a release issued by the Union president N. Lichio Tungoe and vice president A.T. Jami.
