
Wokha: Launching programme for National Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation week was held at Town Hall Wokha on February 20, with Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Vysan R. as the chief guest.
During the weeklong programme, sensitization campaign will be held at Bhandari and Sanis Block supported by the Kyong Eloe Hoho on February 21, message on rural drinking water and sanitation awareness at various churches, painting competition for school children on February 24 and exposure trips (February 24 and 25) for WATSAN members to Chuchuyimpang Village under Mokokchung district.
The chief guest called upon the gathering to sensitize the people on the importance of keeping clean environment and use of safe water. He further said that WATSAN chairman and secretary should take the responsibility to ensure maintenance of clean sanitation in their respective villages to keep away from diseases. He also stressed on the need for conservation of Forest pointing out that it directly affect water source.
Chief Medical Officer, Wokha Dr WN Ezung highlighted on the major public health problem faced in the country, and reminded the gathering of the health hazards due to unsafe and contaminated water resulting in loss of lives and urged the gathering to spread awareness on the use of safe water in order to reduce water borne diseases. Short speeches were also delivered by CDPO, Wokha Soren Kikon, SDEO Aremo Ezung and Executive Secretary, Rev. MC Kithan.
In the second session, IEC Consultant Nisuro spoke on the topic National Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation and Importance of Sanitation, while Chemist, Abemo spoke on Water Quality and its importance. The function was chaired by EE (PHE), Wokha Vihoto Achumi while vote of thanks was proposed by SDO (PHE), Wokha, Kedholhuto Punyu. The programme was organised by PHED, Wokha and sponsored by WSSO (Water and Sanitation Supporting Organisation) Kohima.
