The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), in collaboration with Shishoi Oshim-ETF Cell Wokha and the Department of Fisheries & AR, conducted a three-day skill development training on “Fish Preservation & Value Addition” to empower local entrepreneurs and enhance economic resilience through fisheries development.

The event was held from July 2 to 4 in Wokha district, Nagaland seeing participation from 25 young entrepreneurs.
Resource persons from ICAR-RC for NEH Umiam, NFDB-NERC and officials from the Wokha District Fisheries Office imparted their knowledge and expertise.

The training focused on the crucial aspects of fish handling and encompassed various preservatio n techniques including icing, freezing, drying, smoking, fermenting, and canning. Participants were also instructed on creating value-added fish products such as pickles, cutlets, sausages, pakoras, fish fingers, and fish balls, which hold significant potential for generating income among unemployed youth with modest initial investments.

As part of the programme, trainees visited the Fish Processing Unit in Sanis receiving practical demonstrations and hands-on training in product preparation. Moreover, awareness sessions on governmental schemes and subsidies designed to bolster entrepreneurial ventures in the fisheries sector were highlighted.
