‘Women amelioration and its emerging issues in Nagaland’

A one day workshop on ‘women amelioration and its emerging issues in Nagaland’ was held at Model Christian College Kohima on June 18 last with Gracy Ayee, State Coordinator of State Resource Centre for Women and Juliana R Medom, Assistant State Coordinator SRCW as resource persons.  

The program was organized by Department of Sociology MCC Kohima.  

Speaking at the occasion, Ayee highlighted on the concept of women empowerment and the emerging issues concerning women in Nagaland.  

Emphasizing on the prevalence of domestic violence and various other crimes and injustice against women, she stressed upon the need to do away with the patriarchal mindset and stereotyping of women. Juliania Medom highlighted on the emerging issues and concerns of child rights.  

Emphasis was made on issues pertaining to child labour, child trafficking, child abuse, illegal adoption and the like. She also underlined on the various kinds of violence against children, causes of autocracy and its consequences. A documentary on Naga women empowerment also enthralled the audience. The progamme was chaired by Elizabeth Yeptho, Assistant professor, Department of Sociology.  

On the same day, the Department of Zoology, MCC conducted a workshop on ‘Research Methodology’ for the science faculty with Dr. Limatemjen, Assistant Professor Kohima Science College, Jotsoma as the resource person.  

Highlighting on the various steps and procedures of writing research papers, the resource person enlightened and encouraged the participants on the need and importance of writing and publishing research papers.

  Similarly, he also urged the participant teachers to pursue Ph.D degree in their respective area of specialization.

MCC principal Dr. Luke Rymbai delivered welcome address. The programme was chaired by H.Nishan Singh, HoD, Department of Zoology MCC.
