‘Wonder Woman’ to the rescue? Cinemas to reopen in Nagaland from December 24

With Nagaland Government allowing opening of public spaces, including theatres, with strict adherence to SOPs, cinema halls in the state commercial capital Dimapur are set to reopen from December 24. 

Hillstar Cinema, one of the only two movie exhibitors in the city and state, made the announcement today regarding the reopening following the new order issued by Nagaland Home department in December 21.

However, it noted that the hall will be reopening maintaining the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) directives issued by the Home department. 

“We are happy to announce that Hillstar will be reopening on 24th December (Thursday). SOP will be maintained as per government directive for safety of everyone. Happy holidays,” updated Hillstar Cinema on its Facebook page on December 23.

Later, it informed that the much awaited Gal Gadot’s starrer ‘Wonder Women 1984’ will reopen the screen after closing for nearly 9 months.

The movie will be screened daily at 11AM, 3PM and 7PM.

The other theatre in the city, Fun Cinemas, updated on its Facebook page on December 19 that, “We will be re-opening in a few days.” However, there were no definite information regarding the reopening of Fun Cinemas though it also shared a trailer and booking link to ‘Wonder Woman’ on its page December 23. 

Earlier, the Nagaland Government, in an order on December 21, allowed the opening of various public spaces like entertainment parks, outdoor parks, recreation areas, museums, exhibitions, art galleries, as well as Cinema Halls/ Multiplexes/ Theatres, subject to strict adherence to the provisions stipulated in SOPs.

The general guidelines to the 'SOPS related to Exhibition of films' include maintaining adequate physical distancing of at least 6 feet to be followed outside the auditoriums, common areas and waiting areas at all times. 

Use of face covers/masks to be made mandatory at all times, it said. 

It also called for availability of hand sanitizers, preferably in the touch-free mode, at entry and exit points as well as common areas within the premises. 

Respiratory etiquettes to be strictly followed, it said, adding that this involves strict practice of covering one's mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing with a tissue or handkerchief, flexed elbow and disposing off used tissues properly.

The SOPs also include self-monitoring of health by all and reporting any illness at the earliest to state and district helpline. 
Spitting shall be strictly prohibited, it said while installation and use of Aarogiv Sou App was to be advised to all. 

Thermal screening of visitors/staff is to be carried out at entry points and only asymptomatic individuals shall be allowed to enter the premises, it added. 

Provisions for hand sanitisation should be made available at all entry points and in work areas and designated queue markers shall be made available for entry and exit of the audience from the auditorium and the premises, it added.

The Exit should be done in a staggered row-wise manner to avoid crowding and sufficient time interval between successive screenings on a single screen as well as on various screens in a multiplex shall be provided to ensure row-wise staggered entry and exit of the audience, the SOPs directed.  

Seating Arrangements a. The occupancy of the cinemas/theatres/multiplexes shall not be more than 200 or 50% of their total seating capacity, whichever is lower.
