Nagaland observes World day for Decent Work
Dimapur, October 7 (MExN): Assisi Centre for Integrated Development and National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM), Nagaland Region organised World day for Decent Work programme under the theme “Workers Deserve Peace and Democracy” at Assisi auditorium, Lakeview colony, Dimapur on October 7.
A press release here informed that Avikali Rosemary spoke on mental health and well-being. She explained that mental health is how one thinks and feels, with those that can be addressed with the help of a counselor, and those requiring psychiatric treatment, such as schizophrenia, which needs medication. She emphasised that everyone has the ability to solve problems, but when unable to do so, they should seek help from a health professional.
Rosemary encouraged mothers to spend quality time with their children and to engage in their daily life to make them feel safe and improve their mental health.
Rosemary also stressed that respect comes from within, advising participants to reflect on how much respect they give themselves, as self-respect leads to respect from others.
Advocate Priya Shyam delivered speech on the significance of Decent Work Day, highlighting the need for peaceful workplaces.
She stressed the right of workers to fair wages, safe working conditions, job security, social protection, equal opportunities, workers' rights, and respect.
The programme was chaired by Jascinta, centered on advocating for workers' rights to fair working conditions and mental well-being.
The event opened with a prayer by Narola, followed by welcome address from Sr Pramila, Director and Coordinator of the Assisi Centre for Integrated Development.
She emphasized the importance of mental health and fair working conditions for domestic workers.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Asenla Sangtam. More than 100 participated in the event.
