Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): A workshop on Biotechnology and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organized by Biotech Hub and Patent Information Centre under Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC), Directorate of Science & Technology, Kohima for 7 schools in Dimapur from March 13 to 17.
The schools included Carmel Hr. Sec. School, St. John Hr. Sec. School, Greenwood Hr. Sec. School, Pranab Vidyapith Hr. Sec. School, Bethesda Hr. Sec. School, St. Paul Hr. Sec. School, and Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School.
The technical session was presented by Dr. Merino Visa, Research Scientist, Biotech Hub on Biotechnology and its prospects in Nagaland. She emphasized on the importance of biotechnology as one of the emerging fields of Science. Realizing the rich natural biodiversity of Nagaland, which is located in one of the world’s hot biodiversity zone, she highlighted to the students that biotechnology can play a vital role in the economic development of the State.
Gihukali Chishi, Technical in-charge of Patent Information Centre gave a talk on the Intellectual Property Rights. She presented how IPR is emerging as a benefit to the society and individual as well and how our rights have been infringed on by others and encouraged the society to safeguard our property and protect our rights.
