Workshop on e-Governance underway at Kohima

Kohima, May 23 (DIPR): The workshop on e-Governance Project Life Cycle for 5 days from May 23 to 27 started today at the Heritage Old DC Bungalow Kohima, organised by the Department of Information Technology and Communication (IT&C) Nagaland in association with the National Institute of Smart Government (NISG).
Professor I.C. Kapur and Muraji Bommireddy (NISG) while giving a brief point on e-Governance Project Life Cycle in the inaugural session said that the Government is more customer friendly and service conscious to provide more services without having the need to increase taxes, review key processes eliminating and streamlining wherever possible, understanding Government goals and objectives shift in focus from process and structures to outputs and outcomes accountable to citizens and the public on long term focus. The resource persons also said that sustainability of initiatives rather than quick fixes and populist measures should be adopted making government more accountable by making its operation more transparent and thus reducing the opportunities to corruption and providing development opportunities for all sections of society especially benefiting rural and traditionally underserved communities.
Earlier welcome and felicitation address was delivered by the Director, IT & C, Imjung M. Panger who said that the department is organising e-governance workshop to build up the capacity of government policy in the state. They said since 2008 the department has been conducting e-governance activities for good governance and in the year 2009 the Department also organised for top Government official level. Panger also said that Nagaland state e-governance society has been registered under e-governance project life cycle. He said that the department will provide electronic governance services to 28 other departments through DC’s office to increase co-e-governance services in the state.
The department of IT & C has said that the Community Information Centre (CIC), which covers all 11 districts in the state, will be called as Common Service Centres (CSC). From 22 departments 29 participants is taking part in the 5-day long e-governance workshop. The resource person will delivered on the topic challenges in government service delivery model, e-government and e-governance, key objectives and benefits of e-governance implementation, need for a holistic approach and key output at each phase of life cycle. The resource persons from National Institute of Smart Government (NISG) are Prof. Kapur, Muraji Bommireddy and Ashi Ray. Chura Katiry is the workshop Co-ordinator.
