Kohima, October 25 (DIPR): With a focus to equip the youth on the opportunities and challenges in the field of modern technology and the use of social media, a workshop titled ‘Modern Education’ was conducted at Council Hall, Mima village on October 23.
Parliamentary Secretary for Mechanical Engineering & NSMDC, Er Vikho-o Yhoshü graced the workshop, which was conducted by the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Kohima in association with Mima Students’ Union.
Principal of Kohima College, Dr. Watijungshi Jamir, at the event said “we are on the cusp of a new industrial revolution, which will be a digital revolution” and exhorted the youth to be prepared with knowledge to face the digital age. Technical Director & DIO Kohima, National Informatics Centre, Government of India, Er. J.G. Lorin Rengma and Assistant Professor, Kohima College, Dr. Neikehienuo Mepfhuo were the resource persons.
Er. Lorin dealing on the topic - ‘A cashless India through modern technology’, said that after demonetization there is an increase in adoption of digital transaction and innovations in digital payment applications. He explained the various methods, benefits of digital payment such as - Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), e-Wallet, Unified Payment Interface (UPI) etc. He also shared about the concerns of digital transaction and said that government’s digital transaction apps such as BHIM, SBI Buddy, SBI Pay have a more secure and liable system.
Dr. Mepfhuo speaking on the topic - ‘Social media and the youth’ shared on how social media have emerged as a powerful medium for information and communication, and with it its negative effects, especially on the youth. She stressed on the need for digital literacy programme in education curriculum which will address problems such as cyber bullying, public shaming, body shaming etc.
Speaking against normalizing the circulation of graphic images of dead bodies, she said that it is necessary to sensitize people about the harm in circulating such contents on social media. Encouraging the youth to be more sensitive in using social media she remarked, “In a world where you can be anything, be kind to one another.”
