As part of the initiative under Aspirational District, fish farmers of Kiphire where given hands-on training in ‘modern methods of freshwater aquaculture’ at Hopngkyü Memorial Hall graced by SDO(C) Kiphire Hq Nyempo Wallin as special guest. 


The training was attended by hundreds of fish farmers from the district organised by ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (Deemed University) Kolkata Center. 


Speaking as special guest, Nyempo Wallin, SDO(C) Kiphire Hq expressed gratitude to the expert who have come from Kolkata to train fish farmers who otherwise does not have the exposure and knowledge in fish rearing. 
She expressed hope that the participants would empower fellow fish farmers with their knowledge. 


“Though Kiphire has enough land, it's output is less as fish farmers are still practicing ancient method of fish rearing,” she said while hoping that with the training farmers will get to know scientific know-how which will drastically improve the income of farmers and economy of the district. 


Highlighting the importance of the training, Dr Sujata Sahoo said ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education which is a deemed University look after all agriculture activity. She said that the training is been organised as Kiphire is an 'Aspirational District' from time to time to skilled the fish farmers with scientific knowledge to increase the productivity of fish production. She also pointed out that the center give training on entrepreneurship. 


Also addressing the farmers, Dr B K Mahapatra pointed out that we live in the modern world of fish harvesting but we still lacking behind and therefore this training will motivate and promote fish farmers. 


He informed that this year’s training farmers will be given manual book to guide them on how to rear fish so that farmers know how to rear fish according to the climatic condition. “Kiphire has a very good resources in terms of fresh water but need resources and scientific knowledge to tap into the potential,” he added. 


The three-day training will culminate on March 7.
