
Dimapur, September 21 (MExN): A workshop on Positive Living is being organized by the Morung Foundation on September 24 at IMC Hall in Dimapur. The workshop will be led by Dr Nirmala Rao, a prominent Psychiatrist from Mumbai, and her team.
Dr. Rao started her career in 1987 as a consultant therapist, who also conducted a number of research studies at JJ Hospital in her position as RMO. In 1993, she established “Aavishkar” and started her private practice. Her clinical practice has developed mainly from word-of-mouth. A Certified Trainer for Situational Self Leadership (SSL) from Ken Blanchard, USA and for Presentation Skills from Delta College, Michigan (USA), she has also collaborated with the DFID, UK team to design and conduct a programme for bank managers in rural branches. She has been invited by a number of business organisations to conduct behavioural training and leadership development programmes. Crompton Greaves, TATA, Reliance, Mahindra, IDBI Bank, Johnson and Johnson are among some of her clients.
With her team of psychologists, counselors and psychotherapists, Dr. Rao initiated a pioneering methodology to provide comprehensive treatment involving intensive counseling and psychotherapy along with medication.
Aavishkar Centre for Self Enrichment has also been involved in rehabilitating programs for poor patients through the ART-REHAB project to make them economically self reliant ; provided free counseling & conducted workshops for disaster victims (Bombay bomb blasts, Gujarat Earthquake) to help them cope with post-traumatic stress disorders; established Support Groups for Senior Citizens and Single Women; supported girl-education in rural areas of Neral and Karjat; Supported CSR activities of business organizations and was awarded the Shre Hari Haraputra Bhajan Samaj’s Samaj Shakti award for Social Service in 2006.
