DIMAPUR, MAY 12 (MExN): The district Veterinary & Animal Husbandry unit organised a workshop aimed at highlighting the huge commercial potential in the rearing of swine on Thursday, May 12 in Dimapur. The workshop themed: ‘Development Challenges & Opportunities for Pig Production & Marketing in Dimapur’ was sponsored by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in coordination with its north east branch based in Guwahati. ILRI is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
Around 45 livestock (swine) farmers from Dimapur district attended the workshop besides, butchers and NGOs. The objective of the seminar was mainly to sensitize the farmers on the myriad economic potential in piggery, meat sourced from swine and ultimately its marketing, and importantly discussing scopes for improvement. It was hosted at the Crown Hotel conference hall, half Nagarjan junction, Dimapur.
The resource persons were Dr. R. Deka, Scientific Officer, ILRI, Guwahati and Dr. F. Paolo, Knowledge Management Expert, Asia. The district Veterinary and Animal Husbandry office were led by the DVO Dr. V H Shohe and Dr. H Hevito Shohe, VAS.
