World Breastfeeding Week observed at Wangla and Mangkolemba

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 10 (MExN): To spread the message on the importance of optimal breastfeeding in target communities, World Vision India, Mon, Longkei Cluster observed World Breastfeeding Week in collaboration with the church and village council at Wangla on August 7.  

A press note informed that Temjen Sangtam, CDF shared on breastfeeding and its linkage with foundation and nourishment for life vis-a-vis nutrition and progress. The participants were also sensitized on sanitation and hand washing demonstration was done by Lorence Soy CDF.  

Keynote speech was given by David Konyak, CSAM, who also highlighted the quarterly nutritional status of the children less than five years. He urged the community to give first priority to nutrition of the children.  

Pongben Konyak, ANM shared on the importance and benefits of optimal breast feeding.  

The participants were sensitized on three main components of optimal breast feeding:   Initiation of Breastfeeding within an hour of delivery and feeding Colostrum; exclusive breast feeding for complete 6 months; and complementary feeding.  

To encourage the community, a quiz competition was held and winners were acknowledged with gifts, which was facilitated by Shilu Jamir, CF.  

The program was attended by the entire Wangla community. Mantai Konyak, Health Facilitator chaired the program while Chingshon Konyak proposed the vote of thanks and benediction was offered by Pastor Yulao Konyak.  

Mangkolemba: World Breastfeeding week was observed at Town hall Mangkolemba on August 7 under the theme ‘Breastfeeding: foundation of life’ with Arenla, ASHA Coordinator as the resource person where she highlighted on the aims of World Breastfeeding week. The programme was chaired by Asangla Supervisor and vote of thanks was offered by R. Imtinukshi. It was attended by vice chairman Town Council, GBs, Panchayat members and the same was observed at village/Angangwadi centre levels.
