
FPA India Nagaland Branch conduct awareness prog cum medical camp
Kohima, April 7 (MExN): World Health Day 2017 is celebrated on April 7 and each year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) selects a theme highlighting a particular priority area of public health. The theme for this year's global health awareness day is ‘Depression: Let's Talk.’
In observance of World Health Day, FPA India Nagaland Branch in collaboration with Thenyuzumi Students Union conducted a awareness programme cum medical camp at Thenyuzumi. An awareness session was conducted with the village elders and leaders.
Sharing on the ‘significance of the day’ and highlighting on the theme, Ville Rhetso, Counselor FPA India Nagaland Branch informed the participants that depression affects people of all ages around the world and can lead to suicide which is now the second leading cause of death among 15-29 years old as per WHO report. She said that depression as an illness and not a sign of weakness. It can be prevented and treated. The participants were also sensitized on the better understanding of what depression is, how they can help someone who lives in depression without stigma and discrimination and how one can stay positive and prevent depression in all stages of life.
Dr. Pewezo Khalo stressed on the village sanitation and hygiene, village cleanliness, timely health seeking behaviour. He appealed to all the villages and different organization to co-ordinate for betterment of the public health. Kenei Rhakho gave a brief about FPA India and services to the community and an Invocation prayer by C. Kroso. Vote of thanks was given by Zhothiyi Dawhuo.
Meanwhile, FPA in a press release also added that medical camp was conducted to provide good health care services to the villagers. Altogether 100 people were registered for health treatment and management services. In addition, Family planning Counselling and Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) services were also provided.
Adolescent Education Program was also conducted at Andrews High School. Rokuoneinuo Zecho Program Officer FPA India Nagaland Branch, talked on the issues related to adolescents and growing up, thereby developing their skills in decision making, assertiveness, communication and stress and emotional management. The session further provides inputs on sense of self confidence, ability to ask questions and seek help; and provide references to resources and services.
