KOHIMA, MAY 7 (MExN): The district athletics associations of Kohima, Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Peren, Noklak and Wokha commemorated World Kids Athletics Day on May 7 in collaboration with the Nagaland Athletics Association.

According to a press release issued by the Nagaland Athletics Media Team, the programme was celebrated simultaneously across various districts of Nagaland along with the rest of the world to reaffirm the commitment towards the promotion and development of grassroots athletics in the state.

The celebration aimed to encourage children to actively participate in sports and physical activities from an early age while promoting the values of fitness, teamwork, discipline and healthy living through athletics. Various fun-based and age-appropriate athletics activities and competitions were organised for children under different age categories.

The release stated that the event forms part of the official calendar programme under the Athletics Federation of India and is part of a nationwide initiative to promote athletics among children and strengthen grassroots sports development across the country.

Around 700 participants reportedly took part in the celebrations across the participating districts. Children, coaches, technical officials, volunteers, parents and well-wishers attended the programmes, reflecting growing awareness and interest in athletics and youth sports development across Nagaland.

The participating districts conducted the activities with “great enthusiasm and community involvement,” making the occasion “a memorable and meaningful celebration for young athletes,” the release stated.

The Nagaland Athletics Association expressed appreciation to all the district associations for their efforts and commitment towards the successful conduct of the programme. It also acknowledged the support and cooperation extended by schools, parents, volunteers and local communities.

Meanwhile, the Mokokchung Athletics Association postponed its scheduled programme due to poor weather conditions. The association informed that the event would be conducted at a later date subject to favourable weather conditions.
