Kohima, October 18 (MExN): The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of the National Legal Service Authority observed World Students’ Day on October 16 as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and Legal Services Week at the District legal Services Authority level.
The events of the day in various districts were focused on ‘Right to Education Act’ in achieving quality and inclusive accessible education with Legal Literacy Clubs, law students, schools, and colleges, among others, according to a press release received on Monday.
In Phek district, the Phek DLSA organised a programme at Phek Government College wherein Neiwe Mero, an Assistant Professor at the PGC Department of Economics spoke on the significance of the day and Panel lawyer Thomeweu spoke on the Right to Education Act, 2019. A total of 40 students attended the programme which was chaired by the PGC students’ union Vice President, the release stated.
Project Assistant for Dimapur DLSA Sangto Longchar chaired the programme at City Law College, Dimapur wherein Panel lawyer Moatila Ao spoke on the Act and CLC Principal Leonard Aier delivered the welcome note. As per the release 30 students attended the programme.
Similarly, the Zunheboto DLSA observed World Students Day with Legal Literacy Club of St Anthony School at St Peter Hostel, Amiphoto Colony. Project Assistant Tovi Z Yeptho emphasised on the Right to Education Act and other basic legal rights and laws with regard to students.
The Wokha DLSA also conducted an awareness programme and speech competition with Government High School, Wozhuro and Green Valley School, Wozhuro. According to the release, Para Legal Volunteer Zujano Kikon gave a talk on the Right to Education, and Health & Family Welfare Schemes. For the speech competition, Tumchobeni Km of Green Valley School, Soyingro Khuvung of Green Valley School, and Lideno Ngullie of Government High School Wozhuro were adjudged as winners. Para Legal Volunteer Janbenthung Ngullie and GHS Wozhuro teacher Lokyoni Odyuo were the judges.
As per the release, the Tuensang DLSA organised a programme at Government Primary School, Station 'B' Shamator. Para Legal Volunteer Tsurito spoke on the Right to Education. The programme was organised by PLV Thsangtong, Tsurito, and GPS teacher Kihomong delivered the welcome address. All together 35 beneficiaries attended the programme, it stated.
Kohima DLSA celebrated the day with students of Kohima Law College wherein Vimeno highlighted the objectives and provision of Right to Education Act. Toshi O Longkumer, Advocate, Guwahati High Court, Kohima bench shared on Professional Ethics and Art of Advocacy, and encouraged the students to uphold the essence of legal profession and to act in a dignified manner. Panel lawyer Atila Pongen also emphasised on legal services activities, the release stated.
Meanwhile, the Mokokchung DLSA held a programme with Mokokchung Law College and also held an event for revamping the MLC Legal Services Clinic. Para legal volunteers of the college were assigned to operate the clinic and a beautification drive which included planting flowers and trees around the college campus was also held, the release stated.
