Dimapur, March 24 (MExN): Kiphire and Peren Districts joined the World TB Day commemoration on Thursday under the theme “Unite to end TB”.
In Kiphire, the District Health Society in collaboration with KPNP+ Care and Support Centre conducted a programme to commemorate World TB Day at District Hospital Kiphire.
The programme was attended by CMO staffs, MS Staffs, Church Leaders, stake holders and various NGOs, a press release received here informed. DTO Dr. Khelito Zhimomi delivered the keynote address and also gave a presentation on the district scenario on TB, activities carried out, performances, gaps and achievements.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Kiphire DC Chumremo Odyuo said, “It is not only the Medical Department but with the help of NGOs, society and other organizations, the TB programme is being carried out.” He encouraged everyone to continue to work together and motivated those diagnosed with TB saying, “Do not feel shy and hide your sickness. Get it treated early by availing the free treatment provided by the government.”
Maintaining that the reality of accessibility of treatment in Nagaland remains a myth in spite of many years of statehood, the DC stated that a healthy society is “an asset” and called upon all to unite and fight the disease.
During the programme, a DOTS patient spoke about his recovery and encouraged those at risk to get diagnosed early without hesitation, understand their treatment options and live a healthy life.
In Peren, the World TB Day was observed in Jaukie Town and was marked by planting of trees at CHC Jalukie and SDO Civil’s Office, Jalukie.
Organised by the District Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) Peren, the trees were planted by TB cured patients. Incentives were also given to the cured patients, a press release from the office of the Chief Medical Officer Peren stated.
Attending the program, SDO Civil Jalukie, Rosietho Ngourie encouraged the cured patients to lead a healthy lifestyle and also to be examples to other TB patients. The SDO (C) emphasized that TB is 100% curable provided TB patients on medication take the complete course of treatment.
