The Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Association (FONSESA) today celebrated 50th Engineer's Day here at NPWD complex. Engineers play a vital role in the development of a nation and countries around the world celebrate Engineer's Day to appreciate their contribution.
In India, Engineer's Day is celebrated on September 15, the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who is considered one of the finest engineers of the country.
Gracing the occasion, K.D Vizo, commissioner & secretary for information technology & communication & power pointed out that engineers are to design solutions for solving socio-economic issue.
He said engineers have to work according to the new challenges and necessities and they have to be present in every infrastructural development field ranging from land usage, transportation, energy & power, information technology, water supply, sanitation, health, agriculture, education etc.
Besides implementing the basic technical and scientific knowledge of the engineering discipline, engineers also have to contribute and promote sustainable development that meets today's necessities without adversely affecting the future needs of upcoming generations.
He further stated that in developed countries engineers use the approach which is within the social, economic and environmental context in order to guarantee real sustainable development for their country. However in developing countries like India this approach is lacking.
Vizo also said engineers in Nagaland have developed a wrong notion that engineering related activities should stop during rainy season. Due to this, our infrastructures are now in deplorable conditions, he said.
Citing instance, Vizo pointed out that metalling of roads in the state can easily be done during non-winter seasons. He expressed the need to change the perception of stopping all engineering related works during summer.
Further, he urged the engineers to transform the state into a centre of engineering excellence for Naga youths to grow and prosper and use the latest state of the art technology to transform the state into a place where tourists, both domestic and foreign, will feel like visiting again and again.
He hoped that engineering fraternity will build bridges connecting the present to the future and provide solution to the socio-economic issue of the state.
Advisor to FONSESA, Er R. Temsutemjen in his address maintained that since time immemorial, technology has been the main key that helped the development of industrialization and civilization of the world. While the scientists explore the natural world and discover new knowledge about the universe and how it works, engineers apply that knowledge to solve real problems, often with an eye towards improving cost and efficiency, he added.
The occasion also witnessed technical presentation from SDO, NPWP, Dr. Khuito Murumi and SDO PHED Er. Mezivil Kikhi.
