WSH & CPO appeal for free, fair, and peaceful ULB election

DIMAPUR, JUNE 21 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and Chakroma Public Organization (CPO), in a joint statement, appealed for a free, fair, and peaceful process of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election.

“It is imperative that the elections are conducted in a transparent and democratic manner, ensuring that all candidates have equal opportunities to present their vision and engage with voters. We urge all candidates and party workers to refrain from any form of violence, intimidation, or unethical practices that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process,” the joint statement issued by the presidents of WSH and CPO read.

It also called upon all voters to exercise their democratic right responsibly and thoughtfully. It is crucial that voters make their decisions based on the merits and capabilities of the candidates, rather than on tribal lines or affiliations, it added.

By electing leaders who are honest, competent, and dedicated to serving the community, we can collectively contribute to the development and progress of our region, the joint statement underscored.

Urging all stakeholders to work together towards a peaceful and harmonious electoral environment, where every voice is heard and every vote counts, the joint statement said, “Let us all demonstrate our commitment to democracy and good governance by participating in the electoral process with integrity and respect for one another.”

WSYF against use of money & undue influence

In similar vein, the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) also emphasized the crucial importance of peaceful participation in the electoral process and advocated for citizens to exercise their right to vote with respect and civility.

In a press release, the WSYF opposed the use of money or undue influence in the upcoming ULB election, and called all wards and colonies to uphold ethical standards.

It also discouraged civil society organizations from engaging in divisive propaganda along tribal lines, and instead urged voters to evaluate candidates based on their merits rather than tribal affiliations. “All stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, are urged to ensure that the electoral process is conducted fairly, transparently and peacefully,” it appealed.

The WSYF reminded the candidates and parties of their duty to promote unity and denounce any acts of violence, at the same time, urged the law enforcement agencies to uphold law impartially to safeguard the security of all voters.

“The WSYF stands in solidarity with those dedicated to ensuring that elections are conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful manner, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the democratic process for the benefit of all members of the society,” it added.
