DIMAPUR, AUGUST 3 (MExN): The Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH) has expressed that it feels sidelined to review the composition of the newly formed Ministerial Group on Petroleum and Natural Gas.
This was expressed in a meeting held at Nikihe village, Aghunaqa, Niuland on August 3. A press statement from WSKH President Phushito Ayemi and General Secretary Kughato Awomi said that the Ministerial group would play a crucial role in overseeing the state's valuable natural resources.
However, it stated that “among the various stakeholders in this sector, the WSKH has expressed concerns over feeling sidelined to review the composition of the Ministerial Group as the Western Sumi in particular and Sumi in general have been excluded from the decision-making body.”
It called upon the Nagaland Government to include a Sumi legislator representing Niuland district to ensure their active participation and inclusion in the decision-making body to foster an environment of transparency and trust among all stakeholders. “By being well-informed about the developments in the sector and having a seat at the table, the WSKH believes they can contribute meaningfully to discussions and ensure that the interests of all are adequately represented,” it added.
The WSKH said that transparent communication and inclusive decision-making will help build trust and avoid potential mistrust between the government and the various stakeholders, promoting cooperation and unity in working towards the common goal of sustainable and responsible resource management.
“If the government does not demonstrate a serious commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the WSKH,” it informed that the body would refrain from participating in the petroleum and natural gas sector.
The WSKH also discussed the “influx of illegal immigrants” and decided to take preventive measures. It appealed to all village council chairpersons and GBs to be vigilant and proactive in checking illegal immigration, while upholding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system. “Strict implementation of ILP is crucial to regulate the entry of illegal immigrants into the state of Nagaland, ensuring that only those with valid permits are allowed to reside or visit the state,” it stated. This measure helps in preserving the unique identity and culture of the indigenous communities and prevents any undue strain on resources, the WSKH said.
