Wokha | February 11
Blending faith with fellowship through sports, the Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC) successfully concluded its first-ever sports evangelism programme at the Public Ground, Wokha, on February 11 after three days of spirited competition and reflection.
The outreach, which commenced on February 9, brought together 12 teams representing various colonies across Wokha town, fostering unity, discipline, and Christian values through healthy sporting engagement.
The closing ceremony-cum-fellowship programme featured an exhortation by Rev. Nyanchumo Lotha, Executive Secretary of the Lotha Baptist Churches Association (LBCA), Vankhosung. Emphasising the deeper purpose behind the event, he stated that while trophies may symbolise victory on the field, the ultimate triumph lies in nurturing discipline in Christ and strengthening one’s spiritual life.
He further encouraged young participants to equip themselves with skills and strive for professionalism in the face of increasing employment challenges within the state. Stressing determination and perseverance, he reminded the gathering that true success is rooted in faith, asserting that achievements are incomplete without God at the centre.
The tournament was inaugurated earlier by Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, NCS (Retd.), MLA, who extended greetings and encouraged the participants at the opening programme.
On the sporting front, the women’s volleyball final witnessed an intense contest as Suren, Midland and New Colony secured a 3–1 victory over Blue Hill, Rachana, Tchuyiro and Chanka Colony in a gripping five-set encounter.
In the men’s football final, Etsutchukha Colony triumphed over GHS & Zuvotong Colony in a dramatic penalty shootout after regulation time ended in a draw.
