The Wokha Village Students' Union (WVSU) held its 75th Platinum Jubilee Souvenir release programme today at the Wokha Village Community Hall, with Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, (Retd) MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board gracing the event as the special guest.
During the gathering, Humtsoe described the occasion as a historic milestone and reflected on the village's past, recalling times when resources were scarce. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for guiding the village and its people through the years.
Humtsoe urged everyone to honor and remember the souls who had passed, acknowledging their contributions to the union’s progress. He emphasized the importance of the Jubilee Souvenir, which serves as both a reminder and a means to reflect on the union's journey. He encouraged students to aim for excellence and work diligently for the future growth of the union.
Humtsoe also introduced a new initiative- the Civil Services Coaching Sponsorship Programme- designed for the residents of the 38-Wokha Assembly Constituency. This program will sponsor 25 aspirants from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to attend a seven-month coaching course for the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) and Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) exams. The aim of the initiative is to promote merit-based opportunities and provide educational support to aspiring candidates in the Wokha constituency.
Wokha village chairman, Vandan Erui, who also spoke at the event, reflected on the concept of good deeds returning in kind, and wished the contributors to the jubilee souvenir success and good fortune in their lives.
Y. Likao Humtsoe, Convenor of the History and Magazine Committee, discussed the importance of preserving one’s history and identity. He highlighted the extensive efforts involved in creating the souvenir and thanked everyone who helped bring it to fruition. He noted that the souvenir was released after the jubilee to encompass all aspects of the celebration, ensuring it captured the true spirit of the event.
The event was chaired by Nzanthung Kikon, General Secretary of WVSU, with an invocation by Phyodemo Tungoe, Youth Director of the Wokha Village Baptist Church (WVBC). Chibenthung P. Kikon, Convenor of the Planning Committee, delivered the welcome address.
Following this, Rev O. Thungben Kikon, Pastor of WVBC, led a dedicatory prayer.
The souvenir was officially released by the special guest. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Chijamo E. Tungoe, President of WVSU, and a benediction by Eyingbeni Murry Eloe Esopvui Nzanchi of WVBC.
