• Alleges that investigations have not been comprehensive and only one sided, hence not conclusive
• Says public faith and trust in the administration and security personnel fading away
DIMAPUR, JUNE 11 (MExN): The Western Yimchungrü Students’ Union (WYSU) on Saturday demanded justice and equality while expressing dismay over the numerous accounts of lawlessness in Tuensang District. It said the public faith and trust in the administration and security are fading away day by day.
Citing instances, a press statement from WYSU president Amos, and speaker Lunso spoke of the recent disappearance of S. Kumcho, who on his way to Tuensang, went missing between Helipong and Sotokur village. His whereabouts is yet to be confirmed, even after a passage of 2 months since April 11, 2016.
The WYSU also demanded a full report on the “illegal abduction” of Kiuthsangla Yimchungrü and her teenage daughter by miscreants on December 9, 2014, and questioned whether a SIT has been constituted for the same.
Further, it also alleged that a police personnel of DEF Tuensang, Chipong Yimchungrü of Chessore village was abducted from his house, tortured and was admitted to civil hospital by the security. However, he was later dragged out and hacked by unruly mobs on February 6, 2015, it stated.
Such incidents, according to the students union, occurred due to the failure of the administration and security agencies in providing security to its populace.
Initiation of corrective action by the district administration has been inordinately delayed in all occasions, it alleged.
While maintaining that the Yimchungrü community has so far cooperated with the SIT and with the State Government mediators to sort out the afore said matters, the WYSU however alleged that “investigations have not been comprehensive and only one sided, hence not conclusive.”
It claimed that the Yimchungrü people have been “patient and tolerated all the said atrocities, injustice and illegal actions in Tuensang and Kiphire Districts and still have been standing true as a law-abiding citizens of the state for the greater interest of the state and to promote peace and harmony.”
In this connection, the students’ community and Yimchungrü citizens has urged the administration and the SIT in charge to work on the evidence available and initiate necessary action so as to bring justice to the aggrieved family members.
It also requested the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) to promote and maintain “Peace Zone” under ENPO jurisdictions in letter and spirit and not merely on paper.
Further, the WYSU acknowledged the Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU) for highlighting the case of the missing mother and her teenage daughter in their agitations and protests “by shedding all boundary and tribal demarcations and stand for justice and peace.”
