
Wokha, August 9 (DIPR): Home Minister Y. Patton today maintained that college is the most important stage in a students’ life for building a better future for the individual concerned and also for the society where he belongs. Speaking as chief guest at the 42nd Fresher’s Social of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha, Patton further stated college is a period where one has to take things seriously and meaningfully.
Stressing on the importance and value of time, he said that perfect management of time is equally important for every person and that more emphasis should be given by students by setting aside specific time for specific purpose including time for oneself, family, friends and society.
He also encouraged the students to set targets or objectives to be achieved in life at this stage and work towards it. “We have to be very clear about what to do or what we are doing in order to strive for excellence,” he said, adding that problems may stand in the way while pursuing success in life but these problems are not permanent. He told the students that anything is possible only if one is determined with a clear conscience. “You should not study to earn but to learn because what you learn today is what you will become tomorrow,” he added.
The Minister also called upon the college authority to give equal importance in imparting extra-curricular activities to the students as college is the most crucial stage for developing personality of the students. He said that they should be given maximum opportunities to explore their innate talents and promote personality development so that they can build strong leadership qualities which are essential for building a strong and better Naga society.
Lauding the pioneers for the sacrifices, he said because of them the college had survived a very crucial situation in its initial period. It was due to the unrelenting efforts and sacrifices rendered by the pioneers that Mt. Tiyi College has achieved thus far and now it is providing Degree Courses in various important departments, he stated. He further appealed to the faculty, non-teaching staff and the students’ community to give their best to elevate the image of the college further.
The Minister assured to blacktop the college road from the college gate till the college campus within this year. He also assured to take up the grievances shared by the college authority to the concerned department and higher authority.
The function was chaired by Asst. Professor Khyopenthung, while welcome address was proposed by Principal MTC, Dr. Abeni Lotha. Vote of thanks was delivered by Vice Principal. MTC, Janbemo Lotha.
