Dimapur, Jan 6 (MExN): In the backdrop of the Shamator melee, the Yimchunger Students Union (YAA) has come out with a statement to buttress its argument the town is not the Tikhir community’s. This, YAA through its President S Throngso stated, seeks to let the people know the real intentions of the “the continuous false publications against the Yimchungru tribe.”
The YAA put forward the following points “for authentic clarifications”.
That Shamator town is the headquarters of the Yimchungru tribe for the past 52 years and “nowhere in the history of Yimchungru tribe, there had been any word of claims against Shamator town by any individual, village or tribe etc.” The situation flared up where the Tikhirs assisted by “Lomitsung” came to Shamator town and completely destroyed materials belonging to the YAA meant for construction of its conference hall at Shamator, it stated.
On the second day, the members of Lomitsung again came to Shamator town and shot one Ahu, DB of Shamator town. The DB escaped. After a few days, since the public of Shamator town “lost security of life due to the continuous raids and firing by Lomitsung outfits assisted by more than 300 Tikhir public”, the people of Shamator town “cried whose cries were heard by the Government and thus deployed the forces like 3rd NAP and IRP at Shamator town to safeguard the innocent public”.
Because of the presence of the NAP and IRB at Shamator town, Lomitsung could not penetrate the town to “finished up” the innocent public and their properties and therefore, they wanted to open “the window to find an outlet” and so attacked the NAP jawans in which one jawan was killed, YAA stated
“Since by nature, Yimchungru are kind, peace-loving people, we called so many times our Tikhir brothers for negotiation so as to throw away the differences at the earliest but the Tikhirs never came forward to the invitation each times. Even the administration heads like DC Tuensang, ADC Shamator and security heads like SP Tuensang were not allowed to enter the gate of Shamator village by firing directly at them reaching even to the neck of death but had to save by the hands of God, which clearly shows their attitude of no-compromise on their part” YAA claimed.
Further, the YAA termed as “false propaganda’ the allegation that power supply to Shamator village was cut but in fact “till to these days the Shamator village is glowing so lively because of the uninterrupted supply of power.” It also termed as ‘false and baseless’ the alleged involvement of the NSCN (K) led by one ‘Maj. (Retd)’ Yimto, Deputy Kilonser. “No factions of NSCN and FGN have any business of involvement in this petty situation. In fact, the attack of Khisang, Advisor TTC was made by the outrage public of Yimchungru by mere used of 12 bore, .22, and muzzle loading guns as the advisor TTC was transporting sophisticated weapons like, AK 47, G-3, G-4, LMG, US Carbin, 303 rifle, grenade, 2”mortar, cartridges, etc. beside carrying cases of whisky to the Tikhirs so that they wage a war against the Yimchungru tribe, security forces and the administrators” the YAA claimed.
The claim of possession of weapons by Shamator public like carbines, 303 rifles, AKs, G-4 etc, was also termed by the organization as one “not better than a shattered dream as the people are desperately defending their own life, families’ life, and properties from the hands of Tikhirs with the limited helps of weapons like 12 bore guns, .22s, and muzzle loading guns”.
On these points the YAA also warned individuals, groups and media persons “to abstain from writing the history of Yimchungru tribe as the Yimchungru themselves are more aware of its own history other than any other person / persons, etc.” It also assured full cooperation to the state Government in hammering out any permanent settlement to this very issue.
YAA also noted that the names and image of “genuine reputed and welfare state high-ranking officers and jawans like the commissioner and DGP Nagaland, SP Tuensang, DC Tuensang, Commandant 3rd NAP Tuensang and ADC Shamator, etc.” are being dragged “down into a muddy drainage.” State security agencies like IRB and NAP who are deployed at Shamator town was not to attack the innocent people at any cost other than to safeguard the life and property of the people in general, it stated, clarifying that “at no point of time, the so-called Shamator village of Tikhirs was attacked either by NAP, IRB, Yimchungru and so on”.
