Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): Yaongyimsen Village Council clarified a news item over statements that the census growth rate of Yaongyimsen village between 1991 and 2001 was “abnormal.” A note from the council’s chairman Nokchumeren pointed out that after the General Census of India 1991 was published, it was detected later that 155 households of a complete khel of the village was left out, uncounted. In spite of repeated representations from the village’s administration to the government for rectification, “it was not a possibility.” However, the rectification was carried out during the 2001 general census after what was stated as ‘detail-spot verification’ carried out by the representative of the Directorate of Census. On this point the council stated that there is no “abnormality” as claimed in the news report. The council added that any person or “group of persons” before publishing such news should have verified the news and ascertain facts and records to avoid “unnecessary embarrassment.”
