YET AGAIN: ANOTHER SHAMEFULL ACT

When will we learn? When will we get out of this woe?

On January 12, 2014 a minor student of Cl X was gang raped by three men. Even though the accused have been put behind bars, the heinous crime, the mentality behind it, is far from being arrested. Nagaland boasts of a high percentage of female literacy rate. It is a place where gender discrimination is not practiced. At one time Nagaland was considered to be the safest place for women and crime against women were unheard of. And yet the public is a mute witness to such acts. What steps are being taken to stamp out this evil once and for all? Will the accused be released with some negligible punishment? Can the severest of the severest punishment be doled out to the accused to deter other ‘would be’ perpetrators? At the minimum, the culprit’s photo must be published in the newspapers and their photos displayed in every street corner to let the public ostracize these culprits to the contempt of everyone. We appeal to the good natured citizens of Nagaland to never allow, encourage or turn a blind eye in their vicinity to such a shameful, disgusting, sickening act. Hope Nagaland becomes free from all crimes and atrocity.
