Yoruba students support ‘Plastics Free Environment’

Kohima, March 28 (MExN): An initiative for plastics free environment was jointly undertaken by Yorübami Students Union and Life Project for second time at Yorüba in Phek district through Plastic Pick-up Competition and Mass Sanitation on March 26.

This was organized to create awareness of cleanliness and a civic sense to all the concerned individuals, especially the younger generations.

More than 60 persons aged from 7-14 participated in the event and various organizations including Yorübami Youth Association (YYA), Yorübami Women Welfare Society, Self Help Groups, etc participated and extended their support towards this venture.

The cash prize along with citation was conferred to all the winners and participants.

Vesüto Khüsoh, President YSU and Manager Life Project, Vevozo Lohe, Co-Manager Life Project, Rükusayi Lohe, President YYA & Küvezüyi Lohe GB accentuated the dangers of using plastic and its consequences. They said that plastic bags have become major items in the litter system which results health disruption in humans and many detrimental environmental effects including animal choking, pollution, blockage of channels, rivers, and streams, and landscape disfigurement.

They strongly urged the participants to be more active in the cleanliness drive in the future and act responsibly to the increasing pollution.
