The body of a 7-year-old boy, who drowned in the Doyang River, was recovered at 2:15 PM today by a joint rescue team comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The incident occurred at the Doyang Reservoir on February 2, around 2:30 PM. In response, a swift rescue operation was initiated involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), NDRF, and an Underwater Drone Team from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), coordinated by the DDMA of Wokha. After an extensive search, the boy’s body was located on February 3, at approximately 2:15 PM.
Local residents had also joined the search efforts on February 2, continuing their search until the body was recovered.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sanis Benjamin Longkap, the incident occurred while the boy was playing football with friends near the Doyang Reservoir. When the ball fell into the river, the boy attempted to retrieve it but did not resurface. His friends immediately alerted his parents.
Following the completion of necessary formalities, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites. Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution near water bodies to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
