St Joseph University hosts first ever Psych-Fest 2K19
Dimapur, September 4 (MExN): The Department of Psychology and Counseling, St Joseph University, Dimapur run by DMI Sisters and MMI Fathers conducted its first ever Psych-Fest 2K19 under the theme ‘Young People’s Mental Health Matters!’ on September 2 at the university campus.
Dr Watinaro Longkumer, HOD, Department of Psychology and Counseling St Joseph University in her welcome address spoke about Psych-Fest as a small venture to provide opportunities for students to rediscover themselves apart from the hectic academic activity within the classroom, a press release from the University stated.
She further emphasized that the Fest enables students to develop important life skills such as leadership, team building, organizing skills, social skills and identifying ones potential including crafting future career paths.
Guest speaker of the event, Rini Ghose Co-founder and Director of Serendip Guardians shared some stark statistics of the current state of registered suicide cases among young people in Nagaland. She pressed on the need of mental health professionals, mentors and also more revolutions to spread awareness of young people’s mental health. Dr J Robert Edwin Chester, Registrar of the University, and Brito Awomi, President Student’s Council also addressed the gathering. Various competitions such as short film, face painting, photography, street play, painting, poster presentation and open mic, Karaoke and dance by students were held.
