Young XI lift 8th Mongmong football trophy

Kiphire | September 4 : In spite of po or infrastructure that the district has thousands of football lovers this evening enthroned the public ground to witness the final match of the 8th edition of the Mongmong football tournament which kicks start on 25th August.
Young and energetic Young XI defeated Legent club to walk away with Rs 25,000 and a cash and trophy of the 8th edition of the Mongmong football tourney which was organised by the Kiphire town Sangtam Students union defeating Legent club in a tie break.
In the first half of the match Legend club lead the match with two goals in early minutes of 25 and 40 from the booths of Ithrongpi of jersy no 9. The match took round in the second half of the second half of the match where the Young XI fought back in the last minutes and equalize the goal in 50 and 80 minutes.
Azheto Sumi MLA, chairman Sericulture & Co-operation who was the guest of Honour at the closing program of the football tourney call upon the citizens that Kiphire is no more backward as the district can compete with the rest of the district in every field and encourage to keep up the same spirit.
He also added he is in Kiphire to celebrate the festival but is fortunate enough to witness a very exciting match and encourage the players to get oneself exposed so that they become better and more skilled’.
Commenting on the infrastructure the guest of Honour also said, ‘Under NEC project priority is given to modernize the ground and assured that he his colleague Dr Niki Kire MLA and Kipili MLA who accompanied him will carry the message to the Chief Minister to develop the ground.
Tsapikyu Former president USLP who also spoke at the closing function asked the MLA and the Visiting dignitaries to address the grievances of the people by developing infrastructure as the district have lot of talented youngsters but lack of infrastructure is the problem.
Yangkhaba Executive chairman KTSSU welcome the guest while Justin Khatomong delivered vote of thanks.
The first runners up walked away with a cash prize of 15,000 and a trophy while the second runners up Kiphier village sporting club walked away with a sum of Rs 10,000 respectively. In an individual prizes best goal keeper goes to Young star club, best player was awarded to mission compound sporting club player and the highest scorer to Kiphire village sporting club.
It may be mentioned that the 8th Mongmong football tourney has altogether 13 teams which is the highest in Mongmong football history.
