DIMAPUR, SEPT 23 (MExN): Youth Centre Dimapur today organized an awareness programme on Right to Information Act 2005 at Christ School hall Dimapur to mark the anniversary of PEACE CHANNEL, a Youth peace movement of third millennium. This unique youth movement enables the youth to take initiative to create Peace in the family, Schools, colleges and society a place of peace. Rev. Fr. Joseph graced the occasion with the invocation prayer.
Chief Guest of the programme, Geoffery Yaden, Editor of Nagaland Post said in his Key note address that Right to Information Act was a challenge. “The basic principles of democracy are to know our rights”, he said. He also exhorted all the Church leaders, Fathers, Sisters, brothers, youth and all NGO heads and representatives to campaign for the right to information Act. “We cannot always blame the government because we are the government and we have the rules. It is our right to get the right information”. He also congratulated the peace channel movement and the Diocesan Youth Centre for conducting such programmes for the people and youth, who plays a vital role in building a just society.
The youth director Fr. C.P. Anto gave a warm welcome to all the participants. In his welcome address he exhorted that the church, NGO’s, Schools and colleges have to find a new identity, identity to fight against violence. “Today we are all called to be an agent of peace and reconciliation. The past was illuminated by many social activists like Mother Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi etc., but today who will illuminate our society? It should be our right minded people and youth”. Therefore he requested all the participants to make a difference in our conflictual situation of our state by building peace in the conflict situations.
Soon after the meeting the resource persons K.H.Savi, Ms. Lidia and James took their time to enlighten the participants with Right to Information Act. During the session they said that even if people give different definition about democracy, the democracy is for the people. They explained in detail about the right, information, and importance of having campaign on Right to Information Act. We look for progress and development in our society and state for we contribute a lot to the government as tax. If we don’t achieve progress and development we have the right to raise our voice through the Right Information Act 2005.
At the end of two hours session the audience had a good interaction with the resource persons. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks given by Miss. Nancy, the peace channel secretary of Dimapur Region, informed Bro. George M, Youth Center Dimapur.
