
Dimapur, August 13 (MExN): Young Organic Umbrella towards Health (YOUTH) undertook its first awareness cum training program on organic farming at Government Middle School, Vidima village Chümoukedima in collaboration with SPREAD NE, Sonapur Guwahati on August 13.
Altogether, there were 22 participants out of whom 14 were students, the headmaster of the school and two teachers, two voluntary youths from the village and three trainers.
The activities were conducted based on theoretical as well as practical method of learning which includes introduction about YOUTH, Importance of creating school nutrition garden, effects of pesticides usages on children, preserving local seeds and making different shapes of bio-intensive raised beds and bamboo bio char in school campus.
“The students were very cooperative and posses the eagerness to learn more, however the insufficiency of teaching faculty in the school is observed,” stated a press note from the YOUTH.
Thus YOUTH Group focuses to explore more schools, villages and communities tocreate more awareness about the ill effects of pesticides usages andpromoting, preserving and protecting of local and indigenous seeds.
Young Organic Umbrella towards Health (YOUTH), a group which aims towards making Nagaland a state producing highest organic product. It is an initiative of three MSW students from NEISSR Dimapur, who has undergone farm training at Sonapur farm learning centre of SPREAD NE (Society for promotion of Rural Economy and Agricultural Development North East), Guwahati.
