Youth have hunger for education: Acharya

Universities in Nagaland called to play a positive role in shaping future of students

Kohima, May 20 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya stated that the youth of the State have a craze and hunger for education and therefore called on Universities to play a positive and dominant role in shaping the future of students and to act as centres of development. 

PRO to Governor in a press release stated that the Governor was addressing a meeting with Vice Chancellors of all Universities in Nagaland, Principals of various colleges, Officers from the School Education and Higher Education Department and Vice Chancellor Nitte University, Mangaluru at the Conference Hall of Raj Bhavan Kohima on May 20. 

Stating that the ultimate aim of education was to strengthen the society, the Governor called on the educational institutions to analyse on improving the education system in the State to further improve and empower students so as to compete with others. Our products when they come out should be an asset to the society, should be able to stand on their feet and make the economy of the State strong, he added.  

Governor Acharya also announced that Nitte Medical University, Alva’s Education Foundation and Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, in collaboration with Indian National Fellowship Centre, has offered a total number of 129 concessional seats, in their institutions. Seats will be available in various courses including Nursing, Engineering, MBA, Pharmacy, Journalism, Graduate degree courses, Masters degree courses and Physiotherapy for the students of NE particularly Nagaland. He stated that the details for admission and other information will be announced in the shortly. 

The Governor also encouraged the Universities and colleges in the State to partner with other educational institutions of the Country and to conduct various programmes for the benefit of the students and Nation integration. 

VC Nitte University, Prof Dr SK Bhandary gave a brief power point presentation on the courses and various activities and achievements on the University during the meeting. 

The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, School Education, Menukhol John and Commissioner & Secretary to Governor, Shri Dinesh Kumar, IAS.
