Zunheboto, January 8 (MExN): Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), Nagaland, Y Kikheto Sema called upon the youth to understand the values of life brought about through the knowledge gained from parents and elders during one’s growing stage of life.

Speaking as the special guest at the 28th Biennial Conference of Saptiqa Area Students’ Union (SASU) at Shena New Village on January 7, Kikheto Sema said that students of today should deviate from having negative thoughts on education but should understand which way they should tread and what profession they should aim for. The APC said that the end result from acquiring knowledge through education should not lead to conflict of interests, divisions and ‘isms’ among Nagas and urged the youth to work towards building a progressive society.

He said that the knowledge gained from parents and elders during the early stages of education such as showing respect to teachers and elders, looking to God for wisdom and guidance are some of the important values which should never be forgotten but should be carried on till lifetime. The APC said that by being humble before God and before everyone around us, we lose nothing but gain many things in life.

Dwelling on the importance of education, the APC said that about 50 percent of the State’s salary component is being spent on Education and Police Departments which shows the Government’s concern over human resource development and the security of its people.  He therefore, called upon the students to make optimum advantage of the Government’s concerns and have a positive frame of mind as they progress towards achieving greater goals in their lives. He called upon the parents to nurture and advise their children with positive guidance stating that the fruit of a tree is known from the seed that is sown.

Stating that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the entire manner of lives with social and economy being the hardest hit, Kikheto quoted the Bible verse in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 and said that Nagas, especially the youth, should also look towards survival by doing labour and earning their livelihood.

He also acknowledged the pioneers and prominent leaders from Saptiqa area who have made significant contributions in various fields for development and progress of Nagaland State as well as for Zunheboto district. He called upon the youth from Saptiqa area to emulate the lives of these pioneers and leaders whose struggle and hard work only made them earn the legacy they lived upon.
