YSU reiterates demand to nab 'remaining culprits' in Aug 16 shooting

Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): The Yemishe Students’ Union (YSU) today reiterated the demand of the Kulolau Yemishe Ghami Kuqhakulu (KYGK) to nab “at the earliest,” the culprits involved in the killing of Lt Col Toishe Yeptho of the NSCN (IM) on August 16 at his residence in Dimapur.

The YSU in a press release regretted that the society of late has been witnessing that “certain elements in the name of national cause were misusing their position to kill and plunder innocent people to serve their own selfish interest which cannot be condoned at any cost.”

It appealed to the law enforcing agency that “those criminals should not go scot-free under any circumstance but initiate stringent punishment, not less than life imprisonment which will set an example to all those who harbor crime as their way of life.”

The YSU had earlier submitted a memorandum for the same to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur and Commissioner of Police respectively, the release added.

It expressed dismay that the sacred cause of the National issue has become a safe haven for “those murderers and goons” who are operating without any compassion for the value of one’s life for “their selfish gains.”

The mass youth organization further mentioned that “our forefathers were brave” and were headhunters, but they took enemies’ head “for pride and honor, and not for personal interest.”

The “act of killing our own brother is totally alien to our Naga culture,” it opined, asserting that “those culprits’ identities and life histories should be thoroughly ascertained if they are truly Naga by blood before any judgment is passed onto them.”

While trying to “restrain and refrain” themselves from any untoward backlash, the students’ body remarked that “we will be forced to take any unrelenting steps if justice is delayed, and for which we should not be held responsible.”

Meanwhile, the YSU also acknowledged the effort of Dimapur Police for nabbing the culprits involved, and reposed “full faith” in the judiciary system and the police department to deliver a fair trial and speedy arrest of the remaining culprits involved in the August 16 shooting incident.
