Yung Aung-led NSCN (K), ULFA-I call for boycott of I-Day

Dimapur, August 9 (MExN): The Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent) have jointly called for a boycott of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in what they termed the “Occupied-WESEA region” on August 15.

“The boycott will be strongly effective in the so-called states of Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh,” stated a joint press statement release here via the Ministry of Information and Publicity, Yung Aung-led NSCN (K).
The Western South East Asia (WESEA), as per the release, is an “illegal occupation” and an act of “aggression which is a violation of international laws.”

“Under the present circumstances it is politically and historically illegal and unjust for India to continue celebrating its pretentious Independence Day in our land,” it added.

The statement further claimed that on July 19, 1947 Mahatma Gandhi “assured the Naga delegation under the then NNC, ‘Nagas has their history and have every right to be independent, if you don't want to stay with India...” while on the eve of the Independence of the British-occupied India, he reportedly declared that, "Assam must be independent and autonomously governed."

“But under the changed circumstances, Colonial India betrayed hundreds of Sovereign and Princely States and forced to join the Union of India,” it added.

The duo further appealed to all the people of WESEA region to “support the boycott call” and show “solidarity by refraining from the imposed celebration.”

Meanwhile, in a separate press release from MIP, Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) informed that in response to the boycott call, a Joint tactical team of the Naga army and ULFA-I attack an Indian Army outpost based at Nampong sub-circle, under Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh at 4 AM on August 9 “causing heavy casualty.”

A comrade from the Strike Team suffered a minor injury but he is out of danger now, it added.

However, a press release from Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) Kohima maintained that the Jairampur Battalion of HQ IGAR (North) foiled “infiltration bid by Insurgents at Pangsau Pass” Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh on August 9.

“One JCO suffered minor injury in hand in the operation which had briefly ensued,” it added.
