Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): The office of the Yimchungru Women Organisation (YWO) has expressed regret that during the celebration of Medemneo at Shamator town, some certain group of people restricted the celebration of the festival by opposing and issuing warnings.

A press note issued by Alula Z.Thsenso, president YWO stated, “It is high time for both the sides to take steps for a clear vision for the days to come.”
“As a democratic country, the Indian Constitutions does not impose any restriction but encourage all communities to preserve their own festival by providing various facilities and funds etc and there is no restriction from any source on the celebration of the festival in our country,” stated YWO in the note. The organization further stated that festivals are distinct of every Naga tribes, celebrating in their own way with a reason and significance which has been passed down from one generation to another since time immemorial. Likewise, the Yimchunger tribe which is one of the major tribe of Tuensang district celebrates the Medemneo festival in the first week of August which is so important to the Yimchungers since all the activities, be it social, political and economic are centered on, in this festival. It also strengthens the family relationship, maintains peace and tranquility amongst the community and it is time to retrospect the past mistake and to re-invent the good things for future.
The YWO also felt that the spirit of peace and confidence building measures, forgive and forget is the need of the hour without which killing and hatred is the only result. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every individual from both sides not to create unnecessary propaganda for unwanted reasons.
