Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland handed over a Reefer Van to the CEO, of ZATARA Pvt Ltd, Apong Longkumer and also signed a memorandum during a programme held at State Horticulture Nursery Dimapur on August 31. 


Principal Secretary, Horticulture, MK Mero regretted that the farmers of Nagaland were not able to market their agricultural and horticulture produces due to lack of proper logistics. He felt that Refrigerated Vans are a must to preserve the produces in fresh form. Mero was hopeful that the ZATARA group would utilise the van for the best interest of the farmers of Nagaland and also for its group. He handed over the keys of the Reefer Van to the CEO of ZATARA Pvt Ltd.


Director Horticulture, Dr Elithung Lotha said that the department has decided to hand over the Reefer Van to the CEO ZATARA Pvt Ltd as he has been one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Nagaland who has been successfully trading in Raja chilly produces for more than five years. Lotha said that Apong has links with the farming community and works in tandem with them and was confident that he will help the farmers in transporting the perishable fruits and vegetables. Dr. Elithung also said that the department could not emphasize on marketing for several years. However, realising the need for marketing and market linkages the department has purchased refrigerated vans to help the entrepreneurs.


CEO ZATARA Pvt Ltd said that he incurred losses many a times as raja chillies are transported in Tata mobiles from different district and is highly perishable. He said that Reefer Van has been an answer to all his problems and thanked the Department of Horticulture for providing him the much needed infrastructure.


The programme was chaired by District Horticulture officer Dimapur, Temsu Longkumer.
