ZCOs demand NIA investigation into March 22 incident

Peren, April 3 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs) have sought the Government of India’s (GoI) intervention into the March 22 incident at Lamhainamdi village under Peren district in which three persons were allegedly killed by armed assailants.

An emergency meeting convened by Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) was held on March 30 at Peren district which was attended by Zeliangrong leaders representing various Zeliangrong Civil Societies and Organizations hailing from Zeliangrong territories of the three States, as per a press release from the Media and Publicity Cell of the ZCOs.

The meeting strongly condemned the killing of three Zeliangrongs and took serious note of the lack of will on the part of the Central and State government in arresting the criminals even after the lapse of more than ten days after the incident. The organizations termed it a sign of “insensitivity, insincerity and lack of commitment into the matter” and said that Zeliangrong people living in the three States are ‘strictly observing’ the governments’ manner of dealing with the incident.

After serious deliberation of the incident, the meeting adopted various resolutions including to demand the GoI to immediately intervene into the matter by directing the National Investigating Agency (NIA) to probe into the incident for impartial, speedy and effective investigation for delivery of justice.

TYOD supports 10-day ultimatum
The Tenyimi Youth Organization Dimapur held an executive meeting and thoroughly deliberated the March 22 incident.

The house unanimously stands in support of the 10-day ultimatum served to the State government by the Zeliang Baudi Nagaland and Nagaland Zeliang People Organization on March 31, the TYOD stated in a press release on Saturday.

It appealed the State government to act without further delay, noting that delay and negligence on the part of the government will only escalate tension among the people and may result in untoward incident anytime. TYOD also reminded the government that criminal cases should not be misconstrued or mixed up with boundary dispute. All perpetrators should be booked under relevant sections of law without any further delay, the TYOD said.

It added that in the event of the shortfall from State government, the TYOD “shall stand with ZBN and NZPO till justice is delivered.”

NZWO: Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Northern Zeme Women Organisation (NZWO) strongly condemned the March 22 incident in Peren and urged every right thinking citizen to condemn the act of bloodshed. It further appealed the concerned authority/administration to arrest the culprits at the earliest and for justice to be delivered.
