Zeliangrongs told to observe Jadonang death anniv today

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 28 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has informed that the death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang , the pioneer freedom fighter is observed in every Zeliangrong inhabited areas on 29th August of every year in commemoration of the hanging of Haipou Jadonang on this day in 1931, by the Britishers who captured the hero on the 19th February, 1931, after his returned with Gaidinliu (also a freedom fighter) from a Bhubon Cave in Cachar (Assam) after having worshipped God.
In commemoration of his 80th Death Anniversary, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) appealed to all the Zeliangrong people to pay respect and honour to the departed soul and light candle at every house at dawn. The ZYF also urged the Zeliangrong people to abstain from any form of entertainment in their respective villages / areas on this auspicious day, informed a press note from Romeo Palmei, President ZYF (AMN).
Born in 1905 from Kabiron (Puiluan) village in Tamenglong District of Manipur, Jadonang was one of the first Naga person who claimed himself to be “Messiah King” of the Nagas to liberate his people from the rule of the British. He was also a prophecy, healer, religious and social activities. But in the agony of sorrow and breath of bravery, Jadonang was hanged on the bank of Nambul River behind Imphal Central Jail leaving behind a legacy of struggle, stated the press note.
