Record revenue of Rs. 110.00 lakhs from the sale of cabbage and potato was reported during the current year from Zhavame Vegetable Village under Phek district.
This was stated in the annual administrative report of the horticulture department tabled in the recent assembly session by parliamentary secretary Neiba Kronu. The report said the department of horticulture has adopted a policy for cultivation of vegetables on village/community basis wherein potential vegetable growing villages in each districts were selected. Under this scheme, the vegetable villages are provided with quality seeds both hybrid and open pollinated for production of vegetable during kharif and rabi season.
Altogether, there are 52 active vegetable villages in Nagaland during 2012-13, the report said adding that 1050 hectares has been earmarked for expansion of vegetable production which are in progress.
