TAMENGLONG: Irked by the 'inefficient dealing' of the state government of Manipur on the prevailing situation in Jiribam, from the midnight of April 23 the Zeliangrong organisations spear-headed by Zeliangrong Students Union Manipur (ZSUM) will impose a 48-hour bandh in 'Zeliangrong areas'. ZSUM said national projects such as the construction of rail-line will come under the purview of the bandh.
Mreanwhile, sources said that a public protest rally will also be organised on coming Saturday in Tamenglong district headquarters in this connection. In a press communique here, the ZSUM while strongly reacting against the caption ‘District administration calls for peace’, by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Harmit Singh Paraja, Jiribam on behalf of the state machinery, the ZSUM questioned as to why such statement came out without giving protection/justice to the heinous crime victims of the April 13 incident where innocent students were thrashed black and blue and attempted murder on five students by forcing them inside their rented room, locked from outside, poured petrol and set the house on fire by people from certain community.
"It is only due to the Almighty God's help that the students escaped by breaking the house; otherwise they all would have been burnt alive. Instead of bringing justice to the victims and compensate for the properties burnt into ashes and students who were hospitalized, the additional deputy commissioner of Jiribam had appealed for peace and on the other hand giving free hand to the attackers and letting them to roam freely," ZSUM alleged. ZSUM also questioned Dr Paraja, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam, that if at all he has the authority to appeal on behalf of the state government to maintain peace, then he should act and solve the matter and not make hypocritic statement to wash off his hand of the crime.

TAHAMZAM (SENAPATI), APRIL 22 (MExN): The United Naga Council has strongly condemned the communal policy of the Government of Manipur for what it called “encroaching upon the land of the tribals and the Nagas by deploying communal forces and creating a highly communal situation in Jiribam.”
A press release from the publicity wing of the UNC stated “the law of the land has not been upheld and the criminals are at large continuing freely with their communal agenda.”
UNC further sought the immediate intervention of the Government of India and prevent the situation from spiralling out of hand. “The Government of Manipur must be held responsible for any further communal flare up in the area as they have wilfully refrained from containing the situation,” UNC stated.
