Zunheboto celebrates National Science Day

Zunheboto, March 15 (MExN): The District Education Office, Zunheboto organized National Science Day under the theme ‘Women in Science’ at Love Dale Higher Secondary School (LDHSS), Zunheboto on March 14.


Guest speaker for the event, Dr Akaholi Zhimomi spoke about how the field of science was previously dominated by men. However, she noted that things have changed now and said that pioneering women scientists have made it easier for the young girls to venture into the field of science.


She encouraged girls to pursue science with a little more determination and called on them to make sure that women contribution in science is not just an exception but the norm of daily life and work.


Lichumthung Lotha, Sr SDEO and acting DEO Zunheboto delivered the keynote address and recalled his experiences of growing up at a time when technological advances were not as developed.


He advised the students to be mindful of their dependency on technology and suggested that the students do not limit their use of technology until the age of 18 is attained. 


Proprietor, LDHSS Aron Ellis also addressed the gathering and hoped that through the initiatives of the education department, students can explore their talents.


Earlier the programme was chaired by Holoka T Sumi while invocation was pronouned by Inokali Aye. KD Sahoo addressed the welcome note and words of gratitude were proposed by Aloto Swu followed by benediction pronounced by Vibo Awomi.


According to a press release, a competition was also organized and winners were given cash awards and certificates.


The judges for the competitions were Bohoto Chishi, JEO, Ahoni Yeptho, Project Asst. SSA and Hiloto Awomi, Graduate Science Teacher and Trainer of Teachers.
