Amid the rising COVID-19 cases and deaths in the State, Zunheboto district reported the first COVID-19 related death on May 8. According to the Zunheboto Chief Medical Officer In-charge, the deceased was a 45 year old shopkeeper hailing from Karimganj, Assam.
He was brought to the District Hospital in Zunheboto on May 7 after complaining of shortness of breath. On arrival at the hospital, the person tested positive for COVID-19. He was immediately admitted and put on oxygen support as his oxygen saturation (SpO2) was very low. Unfortunately, the patient passed away on May 8.
This is the first COVID-19 related casualty in the district. According to Zunheboto District hospital sources, 7 persons are currently under home isolation while 2 are admitted in the hospital at present. The two patients are reportedly stable and their condition is being monitored closely.
