He said that both the bridges are lifelines for several villages and was optimistic that the areas would now see economic benefits through trade and commerce. As such, he expressed gratitude to MLA Y Vikheho Swu for his concern and initiative for improvement of road infrastructure in the area.

Patton, who also the Minister in-charge for Nagaland Public Works Department (Road & Bridges), stated that the two bridge projects were sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under Economic Importance Scheme during August 2017 and construction works began on December 2018.

MLA Vikheho who also attended the video conference acknowledged the Minister in-charge for his intervention and initiatives towards the completion of the bridges despite the COVID-19 crisis. He also stated that the bridges would benefit the adjoining villages and the state as a whole.

The virtual conference was chaired by the Principal Secretary, Works and Housing, NPWD, while the technical report was presented by the NPWD, Chief Engineer Office (Road and Bridges).

The Tsuyi Bridge is located on Pughoboto-Asukiqa road and provides connectivity to six villages, namely Natsumi, Asukiqa, Ghokimi, Kitami, Tsaphimi and Puneboqa villages. A total of Rs 6.38 crore was sanctioned for the bridge in August 2017 and works began in December 2018 under M/s Vertex Construction. The works were completed on March 30 this year.

For the Tsui Bridge which is located on the Kijumetouma to Ghathashi road, Rs 6.90 crore was sanctioned in August 2017. The works began in December 2018 under M/S Multi Builders and was completed on March 28 this year.

According to a press release from the Deputy CM’s Media Cell, the bridge project was proposed as there was no proper permanent bridge over the Tsui River, thereby causing hardship during the rainy seasons.

The Kijumetouma to Ghathashi road passes through Ghathashi, Iphonumi, Mukalimi and Hebolimi villages and also connects to Kohima and Chozuba in Phek district.
