ZYF takes stand on ‘unmandated/unrecognized’ groups

Imphal, August 19 (MExN): An executive meeting of Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) cum public interaction was held on August 18 at Chuanghun village in Manipur’s Senapati district.   A press release from ZYF officials informed that the house discussed the prevailing situation in Zeliangrong areas, particularly confusion created by few individuals by forming/floating “unmandated/unrecognized groups/bodies.” The meeting stated that peaceful atmosphere has returned in the Zeliangrong areas in particular and other Naga areas in general following the signing of “Framework Agreement” between the Govt. of India and NSCN (IM) on August 3 and understanding maintained by various Naga political groups among them. “However, the hard earned peaceful atmosphere has been misused by few individuals by forming/floating different unmandated/unrecognized groups/bodies.”   Therefore, the house decided to appeal to all concerned not to meddle into the affairs of the Zeliangrong people and to spell out their position very clear. Regarding the developmental works/activities in Zeliangrong areas, ZYF decided to oversee all the works underway in Zeliangrong areas so that the purpose and objective of the works is fulfilled for the benefit of the general public.   The house also discussed the “interference by unauthorized group/gang” particularly on land issue without knowing the historical background, situation and ground reality of Zeliangrong villages, the release said. It pointed out that the Zeliangrong people's convention does not authorize anybody/group other than tribe based people’s mandated/recognized bodies to deal with land issues. The house further decided to inform all the Zeliangrong villages not to entertain/acknowledge the “unmandated/unrecognized bodies.”   Further, the meeting decided to urge all the ministers/ MLAs/ ADC/ bureaucrats/ Village Chiefs/ Chairmen/ resourceful persons etc not to give any kind of monetary assistance or extend cooperation or support to any unmandated/unrecognized bodies. “If monetary contribution is collected by such unmandated/unrecognized bodies or cooperation or support if extended to the unmandated/unrecognized bodies shall be considered as illegal tax collection with support and cooperation extended to carry out anti social and disruptive activities...”   The house also decided to organize the 85th Martyrdom Day of Haipou Jadonang in Imphal on August 29 with volunteers of ZYF organizing a blood donation camp. It was also resolved to appeal to all not to organize the Martyrdom Day as “a platform just to mislead the general public, gain popularity or gain political mileage or other vested interest.” Meanwhile, ZYF decided to issue “Show Cause” notice to Wainem village to come and clarify at the ZYF office regarding the request to ZYF to shift the meeting venue at the last moment on the ground of alleged threat and intimidation to the people of the village by “Rongmei Naga Youth Organization” (RNYO). The house further decided that ZYF will abstain from extending support or cooperation to the people of Wainem village if the Show Cause Notice is not honored.   The release was appended by Gaiganglung Golmei, Asst. Secretary, Donponang Daimai, General Secretary, and Titus Kamei, President of ZYF.
