Brillante! The Nagaland Piano Festival is all set to deliver unique piano experiences in the Capital starting from October 29 to 31 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma. The three day festival is a tribute to Piano music in Nagaland and a celebration on the heritage of Piano music to the Nagas. Running the second edition, the Festival is organized by the Brillante event team led by Khyochano TCK in collaboration with TAFMA, NPTA, imagi.nation, Music Academy Kohima, Furtados and media partner Nagaland Post. 


“Brillante is the only festival in India that has competition, concert, and pedagogy on one venue. It is a unique festival on it’s own,” said Musician Kyhochano TCK during a press conference on October 11 at KINDRED Cafe, Kohima. The Festival will witness a convergence of local,national and international pianists playing classics,jazz and other contemporary forms of piano music.


A special feature of the Festival will be the appearances of International Classical artist Natalia Kapynova  and Jazz soloist Aman Mahajan as well as performances by KM conservatory of Music Chennai (AR Rahman’s institute).   


One of the highlights of the festival is the 100 Pianos Overture, informed Vikhie Rutsa, which will be the opening act of Brillante where 100 pianists will be coming together to play Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’. The opening act will consist of piano players from all levels starting from young learners (age 4) to teachers, band keyboardists, celebrated professionals, guest artists and competitors from the State and other parts of India. According to the team, the performance is a combined community effort (institutions, organisations, churches etc) “to celebrate together the gift of music, the love of the keys and an expression of praise to God”.


Another feature of the Festival is the Interactive Gallery, informed the team.


The second day will witness concerts and workshops on Classical piano master class, Introduction to Jazz piano and Improvisation, Hymn arrangement basics, piano maintenance, focused interactions, demos, piano playing techniques and practice habits. In the evening session, a piano concert “Sapphire skies” featuring classical artist Natalia Kapynova and Jazz soloist Aman Mahajan will be held.


Piano Competition finals for both junior and senior categories will be held on the third day. A feature of the piano competition in this year’s Brillante will be the addition of Audience choice category in the senior category. The audience will be able to vote live their choice from among the competitors.


The finale will also present a repertoire of classical, jazz, gospel, Broadway and soul by renowned local artists Chathavi Vupru, Ayim Longchar, Ronnie Odyuo, Kekhrie Ringa and a special appearance by KM conservatory of Music Chennai (AR Rahman’s institute).
